Mind Maps
The example on the left shows a mind map created by one of my pupils (thanks must go to Jordan Smith). The rules for using them are as follows:
- 1. Use pictures.
- 2. Taper your branches (ie they should start, "fat" and end, "thin.")
- 3. The writing should be a keyword ALONG the branch.
- 4. The keyword should be written in CAPITAL LETTERS.
- 5. The branches should be curved.
- 6. Use lots of colour.
No one is quite sure why these things work. However research has shown that the process of making a mind map is an extremely effective way of memorising data. Once the mind map has been made, they are of little use. Its the MAKING PROCESS where the learning occurs.
