The Palms
There are thousand of miles of “wiring” of our nervous system. Its at its most dense between the brain and hands. Open palms are associated with honesty and submission. People when they lie often hide their hands behind their backs or in their pockets. Women use a different tactic – they pretend to look busy!
Open palms puts pressure on the other person to have open palms as well.
Palm Up - open, non aggressive.
Palm Down – power and authority – think of Hitler and the Nazi salute!.
Palm down, finger pointing. People find this extremely annoying when speakers'
do this. They see it like some sort of make belief stick which is almost hammering the unlucky
audience in to submission (even worse if this pointing done in a beat with the
speaker’s words). Studies show that people who lecture in this way, leave the
audience feeling annoyed and more importantly: they remember less.
